Aquaponics Test Systems

I have been testing Aquaponics as a method of providing vegetables and fish for my family and friends. So far my test systems have far exceeded expectations and this has led me to move into the next phase and build out a larger production system. The pictures below show my test Barrel systems and the resulting crops I was able to harvest.


On the left is a flood and drain system in lava rock, on the right is constant flow troughs with 3" net pots.

After 4 weeks of growth you can see that most of the plants transplanted into the lava did not survive but the seeds planted in the trough are doing ok. So far I'm only using small gold fish in the tanks below.


8 Weeks in and we are eating fresh tasty lettuce on a daily basis.
